Highlights

A Bailey CaravanBaileys of Bristol required their manual assembly build area to be automated to take away the use of their personnel pushing the product from one build stage to the next.

MacDonald Humfrey (Automation) Ltd., in conjunction with a mechanical partner, installed two floor slat conveyors and an automated side shift transfer that improved both production output and quality of product.

The Build Lines and Side Shift Transfer Unit are controlled using a Modicon plc and SEW inverter drives for speed control. The first Build Line is indexed after a time period, and the final line is continuously running to complete final finish tasks.

The Side Shift Transfer Unit is a semi-automatic device that lifts the chassis and transfers the product from Build Line 1 to Build Line 2.

General installation facilities included general overhead task lighting along with high Lux level inspection lighting at the end of final assembly line. A requirement for overhead 240v power was achieved by installing an enclosed loop bus-bar system with trailing leads.
