L3 MacDonald Humfrey Automation in partnership with Comau UK successfully complete the installation and launch of the new Land Rover Discovery at Jaguar Land Rover’s (JLR) Solihull production facility.

This collaboration required two-years of meticulous planning and commissioning to complete largely due to the complexities of integrating a new model into an existing and running body-in-white production facilities.

To minimize associated risk to JLR, state of the art virtual commissioning and 3D scanning techniques, developed in-house by MacDonald Humfrey Automation, were deployed and their applications proved pivotal to the success of the project. A dedicated team of robotic and software engineers seamlessly transposed the “virtually commissioned world” to that of the running production line across some 250 ABB industrial robots. By pushing the boundaries of automation technologies, MacDonald Humfrey Automation are successfully able to reduce the time, cost and risk often associated with body-in-white production facility installations.
