Eurostar Chooses MacDonald Humfrey (Automation) Ltd in Trial of Security Equipment Upgrade

The MacDonald Humfrey (Automation) Ltd Mach-Smart Lane® along with the unique Mach-SmartView® product and SEMS® (Security Efficiency Management Systems) has been chosen by Eurostar to enhance security and efficiency at a key entry point to Europe.
The Eurostar trial presented some unique challenges that don’t normally exist within a conventional Airport outbound security facility. These challenges revolve around the introduction of large hold type baggage that the Eurostar passengers are entitled to carry onto the train as opposed to an Airport facility which restricts the size of carryon baggage in line with IATA standards.
This unique challenge required a redesign of the standard Mach-SmartLane® to accommodate the larger baggage while still maintain the full functionality offered by the Mach-SmartLane® and Mach-SmartView® solution.

Eurostar opened up the tender process to International competition and down selected the participants to two trial candidates.

Following on from a 3 month trial process MacDonald Humfrey (Automation) were pleased to be selected having satisfied all of the Eurostar criteria.

The majority of systems will be installed in the first quarter of 2015 with the project fully completed in time for the Summer period.
